    Tarp line water ?

Hoping I am posting this in the right place.

I am finally starting my rain tarp. Is there something I can use on the ridgeline to keep water from running down the line unto the tarp?

    Thanks,
    Brian

I just cut a couple of thin strips off one of those ShamWow types of towels and do an overhand knot onto the ridgeline. Works great! Any string that wicks should work equally well.

You can do like Shug: Put your tarp line OVER your tarp, tie the tarp under the line. He suggests Prussic's and toggles...

I run my ridge under the tarp and have not experienced any water getting in.
The prussiks act as a drip line.
A small carabiner/s-biner will also act as a water stop.
Using zing it or similar poly type cord seems to help. It doesn't absorb water like other cords.
My prussiks are made from zing it as well.

Drip lines work well, either cord or fabric tied to the tarps suspension have worked for years.

I've used cotton shoe laces before but this past May I tried the strips of ShamWow ... that stuff is scary absorbing isn't it? Works great as a drip line!

Makes a good pack towel for sponging off your tarp before packing it when it's wet.

+2 on that tip! Also a good washcloth for creek/lake side birdbaths.
Wipe all the smelly parts down, rinse, ring it out. Dries fast.
I punched a small hole in the corner of my shammy for a 'biner, and clip to the outside of the pack for trail drying.

    Bandanas work good too

I have gone back to running my line off of the two ridgeline ends .... never had any water under the tarp. And never did with continuous ridge either for that matter.

Sorta kinda....... When I was out on the 8 night Linville Trip I found that sliding the prussics on the line every night with various tree spacings and such was a bit more than I wanted to do on the continuous ridgeline.
Am missing the fine tuning of the CRL though.
Who knows .... may switch again ...... that is the fun of tweaking. It is not like a marriage ..... you can change whenever the mood strikes.
