the hammock is keeping me from getting work done!

yeah you heard me. I'm inthe middle of tripling the size of my house and this hammock is getting in the way

since my first cold weather use is coming up this weekend i have been experimenting with comfort and using my therma-rest type self inflating pad. adding some mini-biners to the inside ends of the hammoc so i can clip my backpack inside the tent for easy access and an electric lantern. was messing around with that stuff yesterday after work, it was about 60* outside, i was wearing a cotton t-undershirt and some corderoy slacks laying ontop of the therarest pad and oops... I FELL ASLEEP...

my wife woke me up after a half hour or so by banging on the bottom of the hammock.

i think my pad combined with my 15* kelty bag and some wicking thermals will keep me very comfortable this weekend in the 30-40 range. i'll even throw in my fleece bagliner if needed.

Yeah... I'm doing renovations myself so the fiance has room to move in, the date is set so I'm working to a deadline... And yet I still just want to pop out and try this idea or that...

I slept a couple weeks ago in my hammock on a thermarest, partially inflated, wearing thermal underwear and a 20 degree rated bag on me like a quilt... The low that night was 42 and I was HOT ....Too hot.... So I think your system should work fine.

The thing I found was that the thermarest pad was too narrow to stay on easily. Every time I shifted just about I need to adjust the pad. And it wasn't as comfortable as the hammock alone. Too much buckling...

That sounds like what I use and have been very comfy in that range of temps. It is good to have a safety factor along with you as well so the bag liner is a good idea if you can't bail into the house when you get a bit of a chill.
What I lack in knowledge I MORE than make up for with opinions.

Every weekend I have to decide; do I wanna go hiking or do I wanna make backpacking gear. I enjoy both and sometimes I think I could go hiking but that would take all weekend and I really wanna finish that quilt, or snake skins, or hammock....In any case I can always sleep in the back yard and test the stuff I'm making. Too bad they are keeping me busy at work right now or I could spend that time working on gear.

Yea its too bad about bad habits....like food, shelter, clothing, and those things that make us have to (sorrry for using that 4 letter swear word) WORK. It's much nicer to use our creative juices to create, enjoy nature, and work out by hiking.

Somewhere here or in whiteblaze is a warning to that effect

I think I even posted a few cautionary tales myself cause I too have the "problem". Therefore I find it funny!

    Welcome to the club!

Oh, BTW: to avoid making it worse, DO NOT START MAKING YOUR OWN GEAR*, at least till the other, more important** work is done.

*Like: stoves, hamocks, packs, tarps, etc.
**More important = getting the hammock "tweaked"!
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.
