Going to give it a try

Hello all. I've just joined the forum. I've been camping my whole life. I've finally decided to give hammock camping a try. I just got back from a backpacking trip to Mt Greylock with my son. It seems my old bones just can't handle sleeping on the ground anymore. I've tried really good pads, I've got a couple of really nice tents. But none of it seems to change how I feel when I get up in the morning. My hips are sore, my shoulders are sore. I've finally had enough. So after much research I've decided on a clark NX-150. My order is placed and I'm hoping to give it a try on a campout in September. Of course I'll do a couple of trial runs in the woods behind my house. Most of my camping is done with the boy scouts, so if all goes well maybe I'll convert a few tenters.
Just another update, I've decided to give my son the gift of Hammock camping. He has his Eagle board of review coming up, so its an early gift. I decided on a HH 2010 Expedition ASYM zip with side entry. So now both of us will be able to do some experimenting with the two different brands. He'll be camping this weekend, Hennessy guaranteed me it would be in on time.

Welcome! I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how comfy it can be. Many have said it and I'll say it, I'll never go back to sleeping on the ground again.

That's the same course I followed, Lionwl106. Working out the kinks in the backyard and sleeping a few nights in both rainy and dry conditions really gives you good experience for what you'll encounter while camping. A lot of the leaders in our scout troop use hammocks, and the troop is starting to use them now, too. It sure beats sleeping on a pad...even a thick air mattress.

    Welcome to the forum!

Welcome, I just got back from a Scout trip and the leaders hung and the boys hit the ground. You will never guess who got the most sleep and felt the best in the morning!

Welcome to HF and soon to the CJH family. I hope that you have many great outdoor experiences with your son. Let us know as soon as the hammock comes in and you get some down time in it.
