are their spinn patches or would one use a sil patch on a spinn tarp? Sorry to hear about your tarp tearing. When I first read post my initial reaction was really an acorn no way, I never new they were so dangerous
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

doesn't really matter... I like Hawk-eye's no-stitch method of gluing patches on with silicon.

So maybe some consideration should be put to how the tarp is pitched when you're expecting to be bombarded?

During the day, if you prop up one side for more room, perhaps the tarp could be pitched with some slack, and at night a low pitch would create a glancing blow from a falling object...

    scary

I'm almost glad that I haven't been able to afford a spinn or cuben tarp yet. Bummer that this happened, maybe I won't go "ultra"light just yet...

i think this just confirms it. a week ago, my buddy tendertoe was trying to clear a widow-maker near my rig. the rock he threw bounced off the tree and flew backwards towards my shelter, slicing 2 sizable rips in my spinn mamajamba.

needless to say, he gave me his spinn tarp, only to have this most recent incident with the DREADED ACORN!! c'mon, seriously, an acorn?!?!
Man that is bad luck. Well at least you are getting out, even if you are destroying your gear.

Now I'm wondering if my bias toward getting a Spinn tarp should be reconsidered.

Has anyone tried a product called Tear-Aid Kit Type A? Wondering if this repair tape will stick enough for a permanent fix? So far, no holes in the Spinn tarp. I used a self adhesive bicycle tire patch on the small hole I made in the WBBB. That was last season. It still is firmly affixed. Patches would be too small for a real tear and may not stick to silicone impreg Spinn.

glueing on a patch of the same material using clear silicone (GE Silicone II is my choice)is the way to go for patching tarps, the silicone should be a pretty permanent adhesive

i can send you scrap if you want
