PapaSmurf... After making one of these this weekend and looking at your photos I must say your skills are well beyond mine.... It was quite the learning curve doing this first major project on the thread injector.... Mine certainly works but there is room for improvement....

After using this one several times in the rain, I think I'm going to go to a 10.5' ridgeline for my next one. Hammock RL is about 99". It should help with the tarp RL rubbing the hammock straps, especially on smaller trees. I may also increase the width a couple inches on each side.

    That's what counts the most.

I've got 4yds each of these 2 fabrics. I think I'd like to try that 120"x102" (pink one) as it looks like it puts more fabric on the ends where it may be needed most.

So many projects, so little time.

When desiging these, the angles you have to watch is the angle the RL forms with the far pullout. For a feet to the left sleeper, head end to left knee and feet to right shoulder. As the tarp gets wider (on a 60" fabric) this angle gets smaller, providing less coverage on that side. The smaller the angle, the longer the tarp needs to be for coverage. The little "pointy" ends on the RL are not very much coverage in a blowing rain.

There is nothing magical about the numbers. The pink one is based closely on the dimensions of the HH tarp.

My original design was 11' L by 84" wide, based on several tarp designs I've seen in various places/posts. When sketching it, I was basing it on 60" fabric. My sil turned out to be a little over 62" wide, so I just added the extra inch to the ends of the tieouts, which turned out to be about 87".

OK, I was looking at this backwards. Thanks.

I got some 64" wide silnylon from slittlefield today, but I want to nail down my preferred size before I start cutting the good stuff.

Hey Papa! How are ya making out on the new tarp? I made a mock up version of the original one 11' ridgeline out of a bed sheet to see how much coverage I would have.
I was pleasantly surprised on the result. Time to put it to sil.

Took both tarps out this past weekend. Set a buddy up with the 12ft one & I took the smaller one. We got a little rain on Sunday morning. Neither of us got wet, but I would have if there had been any wind at all.

I'm gonna settle on the 11ft x 87" for my sil. I have an adjustable rolled hem foot coming in that I might play with before cranking this one out.

Practice a lot with some "easy" fabric. Something like a bed sheet, pillow case or old button down dress shirt. Nothing stretchy like a t shirt. This will give you a feel / visual for how much fabric you need to feed into the foot / how much "slack" to have ready as it goes into the foot.

Then practice a little on sil. I am a BIG fan of feet and attachments for production speed, but none of them are a "set it and forget it" setup. On all of them, sil is just as aggrevating to work with.

I have had a little better luck with the rolled hem foot (1/8") than I have with the 1/2" rolled hem attachment on sil.

Had a chance to test out the new diamond tarp over the weekend... Need to figure out how to get it tighter as I seem to have a little lack in varies areas when guy'd out. I use four guy location, two at corners and two at halfway points on long sides... I'm using a SL ridge with sliding prusik knot at both ends of RL so I can move the tarp along the RL as needed. I do not believe the knots are slipping as I'm using four complete wraps. I can't get them to move pulling with all my might, they push very easy though allowing adjustment of tarp location along RL. Still a work in progress but it did survive a light rain as well as being packed wet for the day...

My buddys 8X10 Menards camo tarp looked freakin' huge next to it... LOL!!!!!
