    Speer Snug fit Question

Quick question or two and my first post ever!:

I'm about to buy one of the last remaining "Universal" models of the Speer Snugfit for my regular Speer hammock. Waited a few years to have money to spend on a dedicated underquilt. I use homemade makeshift stuff that never seemed to quite keep me toasty... Naturally it is discontinued since I waited!

Is the only difference between a "Speer" model Snugfit and the "Universal" model Snugfit the velcro attachment? Any comments on how hard it would be to add velcro to the Universal Model?

    Regards.

I've got the universal, cracking bit of kit for the colder months.

As far as I know and from Ed explained to me the only difference is the velcro which align with the Speer hammock. I use mine with a Blackbird and it snugs up lovely.

As for adding your own tabs, there's plenty of material to get a good purchase on so I don't see why not.

Is Ed not producing them any longer then ?

A big welcome to the forum too

I'm not totally sure what that means, but it sounds like it's a good thing.

The Velcro is really not necessary, even on the Speers IMO. That thing is a work of art of an underquilt and you won't need to make any mods to it for it to work like a champ. Or apparently, a cracking bit of kit.

Thanks for the comments. I forgot to mention no more Snugfits are being made anymore. Last three available are the Universal model. Doesn't matter at this point as I pulled to trigger and made the purchase, and will live happily ever after!

I think that the only difference is that the Universal does not have the velcro and has more tabs to use to secure it to your hammock. I have the version with the velcro and use it with my Blackbird. All I do is secure it, when necessary, with a couple of pieces of bungee cord from tab to tab. Once could also just rig up some sort of "clip" to secure it to the hammock, as well, I'd think.

I'm gonna start using "cracking bit of kit" whenever I can. Whether it's used correctly or not.

Since you don't need the velcro, you could probably save quite a bit of weight by cutting off the velcro when you get it.

That Cannibal, he's a cracking bit of kit. Or maybe he's just cracking.
