Howdy ya'll. Yet another idea for a DIY hammock stand. The idea here was to make something easy. All the tools you need are a 7/16" socket, a 1/2" socket, a ratchet wrench, and a pipe cutter than can handle 1-3/8" pipe.
The background on this: My oldest boy replaced his bed with a hammock last year. We bought a hammock stand for about $90 I think. It took up about 15' length of floor space if I remember right. Well my youngest son decided he wants a hammock in his room to replace his twin bed. He has more "stuff" in his room, so we wanted to go with some stand idea that wouldn't take up more floor space than his twin bed does.
I looked around and saw some ideas, but wasn't sure how they would work in his room. I've got some old fence parts so I decided to give it a try. So keep in mind that I kept my costs down some making this myself. But if you want to build one you will need:
6 each 10' long poles 1-3/8" diameter.
6 each 90 degree gate corners.
2 each T brackets.
4 each end caps with loops.
2 each shackles (optional).
1. Cut two 10' poles into 9' lengths. You could go longer if you want, but then you need to adjust the length of the side poles. These make the long sides.
2. Cut one of the 10' poles into two 4' lengths. You can also make this wider, but again - it will change the length of the top pole. These make the short sides.
3. Cut one of the 10' pole into two 5' lengths. These make the side braces.
4. Cut one of the 10' poles into two 4' lengths. This makes the hammock supports - you could make these up to 5' tall but it shouldn't change any other parts of the hammock.
5. Create the bottom. attach gate corners to both ends of the 9' poles. Use the T brackets to attach the short poles to the long poles (see picture).
6. Attach the vertical supports to the poles using the gate corners. The put gate corners on top of the vertical supports.
7. Attach the 5' side supports to the vertical support and the short end of the bottom using the end caps (see picture).

8. Measure the top corner to corner for length. Mine shown here was 112". Cut and install the pipe.
9. (Optional) if you decide to add the shackles, take the middle bolt off the two top corners and replace them with shackles to attach the hammock.
Edit: The entire floor space for this hammock stand is 4'4" wide by 8'10" long. Just a little larger than his twin bed.
