ZQ was kind enough to make those, and 2Q brought them from PA...the very least we could do was help him pull the pulk.
Don't let Dutch fool you...he pulled that sled as much as anyone. It was fun pulling in tandem up the hill, though.

I too will something make and joy in it's making
Seriously thinking about making it this year.
In case any have missed it, in preparation for the winter hangout, there is a lively discussion at

on keeping your water from freezing. I think there are some very usable ideas coming to light there.

thanks for this post, I did the NJ hang last year but I had my car right next to my hammock, now im ready to step it up a notch and do a bit of hikeing in the cold in hopes of doing a longer trip in February early March.
To my knowledge gravity filters dont work in the freezing temps because Ice crystals form on the filter element, Am I correct. So is the best way to purify water in the cold Aqua Mira drops, Iodine drops/tablets? I was able to drive 5 gallons of water to the NJ site last year and I dont think nill be hikeing in with give gallons though.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.
Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
I got my permission slip all signed and am ready to go. So lets go.. awwww man I got to wait till January let the count down begin.....
LLR yes it can freeze...but what i do is keep it next to my base layer...so it does not freeze...and when i'm ready to use it...fill it up...and roll the top up...and squeeze the water out...this way the faster water doesn't give it time to freeze...don't squeeze it hard...but just alittle to help it along
once your filled up...shake it out...and pack in a dry sack...put in next to your base layer ....it's alot of work...but it works 89.7% of the time LOL
or you can just take a bigger pot...and boil your water
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold
Yep, we're still discussing filtering water in cold weather over here.
I'm planning to attend the hang, whatever the date is set for. I'd prefer later in Jan, but I'm pretty flexible.
