No Dutch Biners have failed...that was a Dutch Clip, and it looks like it failed b/c it was taking the load improperly. DBs can't really do that, but Dutch redesigned the DC to reduce the possibility of DCs loading improperly in the future.

But the answer to your questions is...carry what you're comfortable with. Personally, I'm comfortable with both the DBs and the DCs. If you're more comfortable carrying the additional ounce, then do what works! No reason for anyone to try to talk you into anything else.

So now that one of them has failed is it worth the extra ounce saving still over a Real climbing biner? Hopefully that was just a lemon

Who had one fail? I didn't see any posts of a Dutch "Biner" failing. There was a thread recently about a Dutch "Clip" failure but that's a different product.
