How long does the bag last? Is it easy to repack and reuse? Thanks

I realize it's not ideal; but I've got this rectangle Coleman sleeping bag with poly fill....it says rated down to 40 degrees; and it has those toggles and loops on the sides; also has a 2nd zipper at the foot end, so would it be possible in theory, for summer time, to use it as a pea pod with minimal modifications, and for colder weather, zip it up and hang it by the toggles and loops on the bottom, effectively doubled up on the bottom? I am still looking for down pillows and such for my integrated insulated bridge design
