    Snake skins question...

Found out my issue with my $10 sewing machine, looks like the gear that switches it from forward to reverse is sticking. it's now going forward so I'm going to test it and make snakeskins sometime this weekend.

Here's my question: I have the camo bug netting from Walmart, it's not noseeum but I was wondering if it would work for the tarp so it can dry while hiking.

I know alot of people are using the BB Bag, has anyone made the BB Bag with 2 pockets on the outside for the straps? I was also thinking of making these pockets out of the mesh so the straps can dry if it rains.

According to Hammock Engineer, the mesh won't help dry out the tarp much at all. Too much of the tarp material is still packed in a manner that no air flow gets to it. I still use mesh for my tarp skins just because.

I wrap my webbing around my BB sack; poorman's compressions straps.

Do you think one long one or two that meet in the middle works better?

I've only got experience with the "two that meet in the middle" style. If I were to make another set, I think I'd probably make it one long sleeve.

While the mesh won;t really help the "inner" parts of the tarp dry, they will be better than keeping it all locked in a waterproof tube to guarantee it stays wet and gets wet the next day when you use them too...

Good point, I didn't think of that. So mesh it is! Now I have to sew it. Think I'll make a small ripstop seam to sew the mesh into.

If you hem the mesh first, it's not too hard to sew together. You probably won't need the ripstop seam (although I can't picture what you mean exactly.)

Do you mean making a ripstop taco with the netting as the meat?

Something like that, I might just hem it first and see how well it works. Don't worry, I'll change my mind 10x before I actually start this.

I've heard of folks using TP to sew on instead of trying to stitch directly to some slippery stuff. When the hem is complete you just pull the tissue out of the threads. That might work in this case too. Just a thought.
