    Things that I have learned . . .

One of the things that I have learned is; when you use small diameter trees:
And you have a nice tarp set up,
and your hammock is about right,

Then you lay in and the trees do the bend,
and now the tarp ain't so nice . . . and tight.

I guess shock cords would help that some . . . in the summer anyways.

LOL. Why I take pads at high elevations. Around 10,000 feet the trees start to resemble drinking straws, or they're crawling on the ground.

I learned that the German guy working on my wifes car sounds a lot like Arnold Schwarzenegger but don't point it out to him. He's a bit touchy and will make the wheels of your car come off as you drive....

Yea, this works surprisingly well. Amsteel would, I think, be best, but even a doubled over piece of 550 cord has done it for me. I prefer to tie to another tree; as High as I can reach in the tree I"m hanging from, & to the ground (if possible) on the other tree. If you can: loop over a branch on the hanging tree (to keep the rope from sliding down) & take a turn around the base of the other tree for the same reason. My first time doing this the extra tree, I figure because it tapers up, slid first off. 2 wraps & the slipping stopped, so,,,,,,

It has been a while, but I think I pulled a bit of extra tension on the hanging tree, sort of to "Pre load" but then again, I may have only thought to do it but didn't.
