    Black Bird Durability?

Due to no air conditioning and California summer temps, I've been blissfully sleeping outside every night in my 1.1 double Blackbird. Most comfortable sleep ever! However, a scary thought intrudes--am I wearing it out? Every night means several zipper operations--in, out, late night excursions, pack up...Does anyone have any experience on how long the Bird lasts with daily use? I'm thinking hard about how to bring it inside for winter sleeping. Getting so I'm forgetting how to bed sleep!

I have no idea how many nights I have on my first Blackbird at this point, but I know it's a lot! I could still list it in "like new" condition if I were dumb enough to sell it.

Hammocks last a long time when cared for. Well long enough to justify the meager costs.

Get a Traveler when it's time to move it indoors (or make a DIY one). Less zipper action that way.

Quit worrying about wearing it out! Hammocks are CHEAP, and DIY ones are doubly so. Use it till you wear it out and get another one!

The only thing where you'll likely encounter "wear-and-tear" for your WBBB will be the zipper, but the WBBB has a pretty good one. The big thing is to keep it clean and periodically (annually?) lubricate the slider with a little silicone spray or candle wax. Like any zipper, be gentle with it and it'll last you for quite a long time.

Nothing last forever. Of course how much will cost to replace your BB versus a new mattress.

I think the WBBB will last a long time if cared for properly. Down the road things can be repaired and if you got really good use out of it, it can be replaced. I don't mind gear wearing out because eventually it will but as long as I got my money's worth I'm happy.

Hmmm...now that I think about it, I sincerely hope I DO get some of my gear to actually wear out!!

As long as you carefully care for it, make sure the material dosent snag on the zipper and rips it, dont allow it to get mildewy, it can last a long time. Ive slept in my first WBBB several times over this year in varying conditions and besides some smelly funk, its as good as new.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
