in the summer def a poly shirt for me it keeps me less sweaty and In a hammock i like to sleep in a tee and boxers, last winter I used poly but this winter im gonna try out some of the wool clothing I bought over the year. I def agree with pan about the wool no funk factor.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

Merino wool base layer - no itch and silky smooth. No longer have anything else for the base layer if it is cold enough to need one.

    Definitely merino wool!

Cozy warm, no itch, no funk, dries quickly - it has become my favorite base layer and sleeping garments.

I'd love to get some wool baselayers together, but they just cost so much and there are still other things I'd rather have with that kind of money. Right now all I have is a 60-80% (don't remember) wool and poly or spandex blend long underwear bottoms. I got them from Target for $15 and really wish I had bought more for that price.

Anyone have a suggestion for quality, yet affordable, merino base layers or clothing?
oldgringo's reply to my worrying about owning extra hammocks:

How many pairs of underwear do you own? Do you refer to them as "extras", simply because you're not wearing all of them as we speak?

I've got a lightweight cotton T shirt I sleep in. I only use it to sleep in, and it's super cozy for a great nights sleep, so it's worth it as a "luxury item" in the pack.

You ever see a cold sheep ? Wool, wool and more wool. Nothen better
in cold damp days or for layering in the deep cold.

It's not weather for me - it's price. There are all kinds of weights of wool. I would love to have wool everything. It just costs more than your basic poly/polypro....

Wool stinks less. But poly washes out okay if you add vinegar to the load.

I use some "poly-fleece" from Sportsmansguide. I got no wool that I want up against my skin at this point tho.

I have Ibex shirt that's pretty comfortable as a base layer. Another set is a poly-wool blend...it was pretty cheap for merino so it's still a little scratchy, even though it says it's really merino. But it smells better than 100% synthetic. That's my winter set.
