Question Question for the Texas hangars

I really do like winter camping ok but hey...it starts to wear on me after awhile and I'm already starting to get spring fever! Been throwing around the idea of a road trip down to Texas since last year because I've never been there before except for a brief few days in Houston for work related stuff a few years ago but I never got out of the city to see or do anything on my own time. Looking for recommendations for hiking/backcountry camping places. So far what I've come up with from my web searches are Davey Crockett NF, Sam Houston NF, Angelina NF... Nothing concrete yet but if I did do a trip down I'd be looking at the end of this month or early March while the weather is still cool.

Me, UncleMJM, and his son (Texas Longhorns) spent last weekend hiking part of the Lost Pines trail at Bastrop State Park and had a blast!

If you hike out past a certain point, they'll allow you to camp anywhere in the HUGE designated forested area as long as you're 50ft off the trail and a 100ft from any water source. Sure seemed like we had the whole place to ourselves.

If you look at the map here, we stayed right near the Gotier Trace Remnants point of interest.

I have two kids (grown ones) that live in Texas and according to them, today was "winter camping."

The lone star trail is great in march .... Very flat however.

The 4c trail is cool too.

My favorite is the Goodwater trail around lake Georgetown. 28 miles with varied terrain.

When were you thinking in March?
