Don't know about the rest of ya, but going to Poland would be cool! Never been there and no need for you to be a lonely hanger, when we are so many from Europe

How do you get to your area? Are there any airports?

Everyone here is preparing for Euro 2012

we have planned to visit Sweden next (2011 or 2012) summer.

Airports: Gdańsk for the northern part of Poland, Warsaw (Warszawa, Okęcie) for the central part, Kraków (Balice) for the southern, There are many smaller, this are the biggest three. Ferry - good for northern part only, trains are not reliable here if you have not a direct connection:/.

If you are planning to hang in spring in the mountains, there will be awful terrain, slippery mud, maybe snow (until May). If you want to walk through the Carpathians, I'd suggest landing in Kraków-Balice or Katowice-Pyrzowice, and taking a bus to the mountains (there is a red trail across Polish part of Carpathians, you can watch some photos here: http://www.czerwonyszlak.republika.pl/zdjecia.htm). Czech and Slovakia have the same mountains, but in a magic way its cheaper, warmer, trails are prepared and marked better, people are more friendly and in Slovakia you can pay in Euro
I really can't say nothing good about how this trails are marked in Polish mountains, we got lost this year on this trail. We started 1,5 h walk at 17.00 and we landed at the hostel on the mountain ridge at 21.30. So I guess taking at least one GPS for the group would benefit too

I can't see a good reason to hike through Masurian Lake District in the spring. Swamps, mosquitoes, and a really cold water. It is quite OK from May to September (maybe October, it sometimes happen to be pretty warm), in late June, July and August you can swim in the lakes but with time the forest near the beaches are getting smelly, if you know what i mean.
It is easy to travel, there are direct trains from Gdańsk to Iława.
All I can say is to stay away from the main tourist sites, this is true, I guess, not only for Poland.

We had this week our first night with near-zero (there were probably some ground frosts), 5-10C is a normal night temperature by the end of the summer here. Just for your information.

If you live somewhere near, driving a car can be cheaper that two way flight, driving through Germany should be really fast, for Poland - taking a GPS is a good idea, road signs are pretty much chaotic outside of major roads here. LPG is pretty popular fuel here.

Euro 2012 is a big soccer event. I dunno. Hopefully there will be some people here and there. For now they are figuring out where they can find air pumps that will pomp their stadiums in a single night.
We planned to see southern part of Sweden.

Its not popular here.
Hammock camping is not prohibited "in the woods", most of the camping sites are not prepared for hammocks anyway. My way is simply to stay stealthy and hang just wherever I want to Tenting will make more trouble (tents with "permanent floor" are allowed only at the camping sites, don't ask me who invented this law). You cannot make "open fire" in the woods, but you can use a cooker. If it is really dry and there is a danger of fire, you cannot enter the forests. This happens few times a year.
Dangerous animals are: bears (mountains), boars (everywhere), wisent (in Białowieża Forest only) and very few venomous vipers, none of it is lethal. Mosquitoes are about everywhere, really frustrating, also ticks are common, and getting one can result in lyme disease.
You can drink alcohol only in pubs and in the woods, drinking in inhabited areas, even like country road, any park and on any beach, is prohibited and will make you lots of trouble.

Poland sounds like a cool place to hang - stealth camping makes it even more fun!
I'd be cool with having the hang in Poland, but let's get a few more people onboard before deciding anything

Hiking in bear country can really mentally challenging if you're not used to it, and are told all the wrong stories before leaving
I was compeletely paranoid at first, but eventually found an inner peace walking in their "backyard".

Ticks I'll never get used to! But they are common everywhere, so I'll just keep checking for those little....

Having the Hang here in Denmark is a possibility too - lot's of cool places.... but I'd prefer to go abroad for the adventure of it...

An idea could be, to get a few more members interested in this event, and then plan the location to be fairly close to the center of where we all live?

Sometimes i get fooled b/c of our "freedom to roam" and don't realize it's not like that everywhere .

I don't mind stealth camping, but let say we get 10 -15 people, how easy is it to stealth camp then ?

I did a climbing tour around Dinant, in Belgium, beside the river Meuse.
This was a million years ago, but it was a really cool area.
And i always wanted to go back there.

If the area is remote is enough we could be a group 50 and still be stealthy

It has always annoyed me that access to nature are so heavily regulated in Denmark. As long as I'm not bothering anyone by camping in their yards or destroying nature, then as far as I'm concerned I have the right to roam in DK too

Sounds great! Just checked Google Earth and the HF members map - Dinant might be an interesting location - and foreign enough for most of us

Poland sounds interesting, I´ve been there once, checking out a factory (IKEA) and I saw a lot of trees......
