    Finally made something

Got the grass mowed and the football watched today so decided to actually make something instead of just practicing laying down seams. First thing I had to load the bobbin with some polyester thread. Also had to figure out how to get the cone spool to work on my machine. Solved that problem by gluing an empty regular spool to the bottom of it, worked great. Found out my machine, or at least the bobbin, does not like this heavier thread. It just wouldn't catch the underthread like it should and when it did I would get about an inch sewn and then it would jam. Not sure what I did besides take the bobbin race etc. apart about 50 times and waste a lot of thread, but finally it started working great. Decided to make a ridgeline organizer, last trip I had nowhere to put my glasses and the inevitable book. Used some mystery fabric from WV (thanks man). Tried to plan it so all the seams were inside but it didn't quite work out that way. Only had about 4 inches of webbing, it needed at least 2 more straps but I can still add those. I found like the experts have been saying that it's easier just to hold it and sew it than to try and pin it. In fact, I could not get the darn pins in to save my life. Ready to move on to something bigger. Photo below shows my project along with the whoopie sling I managed to tie.

Looks really good, much better than my first few stuff sacks.
My machine was hit or miss with the heavy duty thread. Dropped down in thread size and things got much better.

Looks good, and I like how you made the middle pocket wider so it will hold a wider paperback than shown.

Thanks all. Not sure this matters much but how does one get the wrinkles out of this stuff? Can you iron it at a low heat? This "prototype" doesn't hang real well because I needed more straps and they should have been closer to the end but it's otherwise functional. I need one more pocket for my glasses but most likely I won't be taking the cell phone anyway.

Two of them can hang back to back!

    I wouldn't iron nylon.

When you increase thread size, you may need to increase needle size.

The wrinkles in your seams are caused by the tension on the thread pulling the fabric together. With lightweight nylon, it's a common issue. If you watch RamblinRev's videos, he shows this issue... Go to about 5:00..

You can also keep the fabric taut by holding the fabric (before and after the machine) with both hands. Let the machine dictate the speed.

RE: heavy thread issues: You need to use a larger needle for larger thread. When using heavy thread, I use a needle recommended for Denim, it works for me.

Nice looking organizer! What's the next project?
