I have hung at 32*F several times with only two layers of Insultex. The first time is was tested, Dutch hung with two layers, and I hung with two layers plus an IX sit pad. Both of us called it a success, and we've improved it dramatically since then with the differential cut and the Torso Heater insert. It's really three layers in the Universal IX UQ, because of the 2'x3' Insultubes Torso Heater sewn-in insert.

The way it works is the InsulTubes and the differential cut make certain there will be a proper gap between the layers of IX. When you hang the IX UQ, you want it to be right up against the hammock without being tight when you are inside. When you are inside, you want no edge gaps anywhere around the perimeter of the IX UQ. You should lay with your head and neck outside the IX UQ, so that your shoulders are on the head end, spreading it out and eliminating edge gaps.

If you get a cold backside, it is too tight.
If you have any edge gaps when laying properly, it is too loose.
If you cannot find the happy medium, contact MacEntyre!
