Here is my proposal for tying it all together. I'm trying to make fail-proof and very quick to produce and set up construction.
So far I figured out:
How not to tie nothing around the tree (I use straps with loop on one end)
How to tie strap to hammock in less than 10s (and untie it later in 1s) - this is way faster than toggled marlinespike hitch I've seen some of you use for the purpose (plus no toggle needed :P ).
How to use a single piece of cordage to gather the end of the hammock and attach a ridge line (+ hanging loops) to it.
Materials used are:
nylon webbing for straps, inch wide
Polyester taffeta for the body, all edges are rolled and stitched (this is important!)
quite sturdy nylon (or polyester?) rope for ridge line and constrictors. About 1/4 inch thick.
The exploding knot used to bind line to straps is so far 100% safe, I tested it many times, but not with line to line configuration. I just always use webbing.
Double constrictors both hold the ends together and hold the ridge line. I had some doubts if they will not untie or loose with time. I tightened it using pliers, so far they don't get loose. I will report if the ends of the fabric will start to slip out beyond the stitching line, so far there is no problem with it, and the head/legs ends of the fabric are really thicker than the rest of the fabric (they are rolled and stitched). The constrictors are holding strong enough not only to hold the stitched end from escaping them, but also they are holding bare fabric strong enough not to slip through the knot.
