Like some many "noobs" I've been lurking in the shadows, listening, observing, learning. But baby.. I'm out of the closet now!
My name is Barney and no it's not a nick name. I'm from the Sacramento area and I've been an "outdoors-man" since the only camping gear available was "war surplus" (still can't stand that nasty canvas smell) and Colman gas stoves and lanterns. My family did Yosemite trips back in the early 50s and I still have found memories of the nightly sound of "let the fire fall!"
My Son and I are into hunting and fishing and general hanging out in the outdoors and He came up with the idea dong some "bivies" in order to get away from the normal hunting and fishing pressures. And so we discover the "hammock". As with all my new interests I go to the INTERNET and "youtube". From there it a natural progression to the "hammock Forum"(thanks fo being there!), then to Shug's great videos (thanks Shug!!!!). Then to Brandon for the BB (heavy one) and BMJ tarp, Dutch clips, making my on "whoopieslings", off to REI, breaking out out backpacking gear.....Hum, where did I put that kitchen sink!
Finally my first trip. Somewhere in the Central Sierras (Labor day weekend)...http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...3&l=8efc66846e
