Question Replacing Dutch Clips with Dutch Biners?

In a recent but now closed thread I read the following about Dutch Biners:

I thought they would replace my dutch clips and work with my huggers, but the gate is too small for that.

I was hoping to do the same, so I was wondering if anyone else has tried replacing the Dutch Clip with the Dutch Biner and what was the result?

I haven't got any problems with the gate being too small, but my fear is that the inside of the Biner will damage the tree hugger, since only small sections of the inner sides are rounded (for it's "intended use"). The webbing will of course be supported by the sides that are not rounded.

Any thoughts? Can it be done or do I need to order a pair of Dutch Clips (or normal carabiners) as well?

Comments and suggestions are most welcome

There are many ways of using the Dutch Biners. I intended them to connect amsteel to amsteel however some have found that they can fit the thinner webbing in. I'm not understanding what you mean by replacing the Clip with the biner though. If you want the biner to act solely like the Clip then I don't think it will work as well. However the fact that your hammock suspension has a disconnect place has advantages and makes it so you don't need the clip if you want to fore go it. Take for example you have a 3 foot hugger and a 4 foot diameter tree. If you have a Clip you have to find another tree but with the clip you can expand you hugger that extra foot by running your whoopie through both hugger loops and connecting it back on the whoopie.

Or you can have the whoopie connected to one end of your hugger and pull it through the other loop and then connect it to a loop on your hammock.

Here is a poorly done vid that may help and may just confuse you more.

I love the Dutch Clip for it's intended purpose and that is to hook webbing around the tree. It works great for the all in one suspension also.

However it was intended to replace biners, not the other way around. The Dutch biner came into play with the advent of the whoopie sling. That and I was trying to reduce the size hugger I used.
    Peace Dutch

    Hey Dutch,

    Thanks for the answer.

I was thinking about using the Biners to act solely like the Clips. I liked the idea of the Biner being "permanently" attached to the webbing loop, reducing the risk of losing it somewhere in woods

I see now that it probably won't function as good as I wanted it too. I have the all-in-one suspension to I think I'll get a pair of Dutch Clips instead

Just use a dutch clip and sew one or two single stitches to sinch up the loop. It will keep the clip in place.

I remember seeing someone post a pic of it - its really simple to do and works really well.

yea the biners are too small for polypro webbing, might work for poly dunno. Just knew they were lighter, so for me it was a POTENTIAL weight savings. Of course i could go lighter and use a marlin spike stick setup, but i enjoy my one step clip it on setup with my DC too much to not carry an extra 24g.
