...or fixing to, rather.
Have a question for the .mil folks, though - is the thread in the military sewing kits from the PX cotton or synthetic? I *think* it's cotton, but would like to know for sure.
Thanks in advance!

Saw that (re-reading the whoopie and brummel threads now), but I thought it de-rated the line severely?

Nope the brummel is not the weak link in a whoopie.
It's where the adjustable section exits the bury.

Interesting stuff...thanks, Knotty.
Now I just have to figure out what measurements I need for *that*....

I just looked at my sewing kit I got at the MCX (Marine Corps Exchange) and it's cotton.

Thanks, dhess - it looked like cotton to me, but it's still nice to have confirmation.
Still reading through the whoopie thread and trying to figure out lengths and such...what's a good size to use for the loop to larkshead around a Traveler? It need to be snug enough for the RL larkshead to be around the bury and not where the legs of the eye join, right?

Someone will probably correct me with why it's a dangerously bad idea, but for my latest set of whoopies (7/64") I made about a two inch fixed eye with a locked brummel, and let the spliced portion be part of the larks head, it's just barely big enough to wrap around the whipping. the adjustable end of my bury is then about an inch from the mass at the end of the hammock. It's held my 350 lbs with no signs of problems (so far). I used about 8 inches of bury for the adjustable part, so i can get away with only needing about an extra foot of length on either side of the hammock. i'll try and take a pic when i get home.
jackyb - thanks for the info!
Brian - I thought the bury for a locked brummel still needed to be in the 9" range? Lemme look up the brummel whoopie thread and the stuff from samson about the brummel whoopie...
