Brian - I thought the bury for a locked brummel still needed to be in the 9" range? Lemme look up the brummel whoopie thread and the stuff from samson about the brummel whoopie...
6" is all you need on the fixed eye bury. The actual marlin splice doesnt really eat any of the length so no need to factor in extra for it.

The adjustable bury should be around the 9" range.

The marlin splice is for the brummel, right?

Yes, I learned that the locking part of a locked brummel splice is called a marlin splice. The entire process, the eye, the lock and the bury is called a locked brummel.

Cool - Is there a certain "clear length" that's needed to separate the fixed bury and the adjustable bury?

Bunch some of it up and hold it near a heat source like a match or a long lighter.
If it melts it is not cotton.

Depends on what its going on. Hennessey hammocks need some distance between the two for proper function. Most others only need enough room to make it work.

Thanks! I didn't know if having the adjustable leg exit right at the end of the fixed bury would act like an untapered splice or not.

Its going to be that way no matter where it exits.

Understood - but wouldn't it have more of an effect if it's at the end of the fixed bury, due to the the end of the fixed bury making the braid tighter at that spot?

Probably in theory, yes. But we arent coming close to the limits of Amsteel Blue as hammockers. So IMO, its a moot point.

And properly tapered, the end of the fixed eye bury will have no impact on the exit of the adjustable bury. Its the line exiting the center of the line that creates the weak point. It will break at the exit before it breaks at the end of the fixed eye bury.
