    Crazy Creek Chair?

I am, admittedly, a hybrid between ultra-light and comfort weight backpacker. What I carry in ultralight gear, I make up for in convenience gear. It balances well and I enjoy it.

With the cold season approaching I'm going to be in need of something under my feet to cover what the 2/3 length UQ does not. In the past I've carried a small thinsulate pad. I had a thought this weekend while sitting on the ground at my back country site. "I wonder if the weight of a crazy creek chair is worth it to be a little more comfortable when sitting? Wait, I wonder if that chair offers any insulation. Hmm.."

So, could I use a crazy creek chair in my hammock under my feet in colder temps?

    Thoughts?
If there's two ways to take my comments, assume it's the lighter and funnier of the two.

I think I may have answered my own question... Their website (http://www.crazycreek.com/category/1/) says they use closed cell foam for the chairs.

I've been using a Crazy Creek Chair as both chair and leg & feet insulation since mid-summer. Yes, there is a weight "penalty" and it's not so easy to pack. I really enjoy having a place to sit, however. I haven't pushed the temperature usage below about 55 degrees, so that's an open question as to "how low can it go".

The chair uses CCF for padding, eyeballed at 1/4".

I went down to 40 degrees this weekend without anything from my knees down. I can easily justify the weight penalty of the chair if I can use it as foot insulation too. Which model chair do you have?

Do you use trekking poles? Odd question, given the thread title I know...

If you do use poles another option in addition to a Crazy Creek chair would be to make yourself a Jerry Chair. The pad that goes in the bottom of it can easily be multi-purposed into foot insulation.

Yes, I use hiking poles. Not considering a Jerry Chair. It just seems like one of those ultra-light for the sake of ultra-light things.

Fair enough. I consider mine to be quite comfortable.

Mine is several years old, but is the "large" model variant of the "original".

I realize this is an old thread, but I was wondering if anyone has tried the Crazy Creek chair as a footpad in colder temps yet. Littlebryan, Beep? I think the idea makes sense, I just wondered about comfort and temp. I like the idea of a chair doubling as foot insulation. The Hexlite model weighs 21 oz and rolls up pretty small. Thoughts?

Bump? Is it a dumb question? Maybe I just get a gossamer gear pad and sit on a log.
