Sorry to hear bout the fall but I look forward to seeing the results to the analysis of the snaped DC. Does tempature affect the strength of the DC at all just a thought
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

A couple of you guys are being a little on the dis-respectful side to dant8ro. He just came to us to try and figure out what happened. I know the Dutch takes pride in his work, the first ever breaking of any product is going to happen, eventually. It isn't dant's fault; It's probably the aluminum companies fault.

Not trying to be a jerk or anything, just wanted to point that out.

I also don't really see I need to immediately take down the video. I still have 100% confidence in DC's, and might even buy some!

    "Stuff" happens.

Certainly doesn't mean we need to melt down our dutch clips.

Reminds me of when I used to do NDT work. One school I went to used climbing carabiners to demonstrate how a nick could create a stress riser and significantly de-rate the 'biner.
Might want to check our clips for nicks and burrs.

No trail name yet, medicine man. Not sure that I want my claim to fame being the only guy to bust a dutch clip. Ah well, have a good one all.

Yes, though the video close ups were getting out of focus, I believe I could see the remains of a "void" in the metal.
So my thoughts are that the OP was fortunate(?) enough to get a rare metal defect, & in the smallest part of the clip. Along w/ that, the clip somehow got skewed to one side in an unusual/incorrect position, putting the webbing were it didn't need to be & better yet, right over that rare void in the metal
What are the odds on that

Well, that's my expert opinion... OK, no expert, that's just my regular opinion
I too will something make and joy in it's making

If this is a metal failure is it possible both clips came from the same manufacturing batch and therefore from the same pot of metal. If so wouldn't it be best to discontinue use of the other clip just to be safe?

Thanks for sharing this experience. Good of Dutch to make this right. Still ordering a couple of pair shortly.
