Indoor Setup Do-Over

Im working with very similar conditions in my room, but once im able (broken heel) to do so im setting it up to hang. My idea was to space the load across a number of ceiling joists with a single 2x4. it will be screwed in with 3" deck screws to each stud. ill then about 10ft (drawing says 12, sorry ) apart sink t-nuts into the 2x4 to attached 3/8' eye bolts two. they will then connect to a 1.5" diameter galv conduit with 3/8" eye bolts put through with washers. these will transfer the dynamic load to a vertical load. ill then larks head continuous amsteel loops to hammock and loop them around either end of conduit. I saw a similar picture of one somewhere around here but with a 2x4 as the spreader.

Well, the math is wrong. There are always variables to be exploited. I can prove it as soon as I get home tonight.

How so?

Using a 8 foot ceiling, and assuming a 100" RL hammock and a 30° hang angle, you get :

12 foot ceiling: 83" RL height

16 foot ceiling: 69" RL height

20 foot ceiling: 55" RL height

22 foot ceiling: 48" RL height

Putting in enough slack from an 8 foot ceiling with a 12 foot span to get a RL height of 4 feet (for the "knee height" recommended hang) makes the hang angle 63° - would that even be enough to get the RL taut?

I can't see a way to do a ceiling hang in that distance minus some sort of hanging compression member, like kalimist shows in the post above.

Don't know. I chose a Biology Degree because it had the least amount of requisite math classes.

But, I do know that's me in one of my Mayans.



Here are the dimensions:
Anchor point to anchor point is 12'. Less than I thought.
Ceiling is 9'
Mayan hammock is 14' 2" from attachment point to attachment point.

I just center some eyebolts in the ceiling rafters and drop a length of chain down. I then connect to the chain. Veeeeery simple. If I wanted to put an eyebolt into the wall near the floor as a secondary attachment for the chain, I could keep the chain tensioned and have even more flexibility. I believe most of the weight would still be on the ceiling anchors. In our old house, my hammock hung from a ceiling that was probably close to 20' high. At that height, I had to have my anchor points about 17' apart.





I also put one of my ENO Singles up so there would be no discussion about the sag of the Mayan offsetting a 'normal' hang. Dog decided to see what all the fuss was about. Check out those blue eyes.
BTW, with the dog in the hammock with me, the load is in the 320-330 lb range. And trust me, when Chyna is in the hammock the load is always dynamic.
