my Simple and easy hammock set up with pics

Hopefully this isn't old news. I use two caribeners and two pieces of static line.

First double your piece of line. Next tie a series of overhand knots along the doubled line.

Loop the line around a tree etc running one end through the other.

Next attach your caribiner through the correct loop to adjust tention.

Do the other side and enjoy. I have a couple of ideas to refine the system and even use webbing.

I use to use a similar system with my ENO until I discovered how light and easy amsteel is.

Nice! This is the exact setup I used when I got my first hammock. I used 550 cord which I found stretched WAY too much. I went to other cord then I eventually made the same evolution I think lots of people with an ENO has or will eventually make: cord w/ loops to Slap Straps to whoopies.

this is actually the tttm suspension that comes with the hammock. it works great but as the above poster mention, the whoopieslings webbing is so much less effort when doing adjustments

While this is a quick and easy system it is a bit on the heavy side for my tastes. I use whoopies and tree straps. I am not preaching nor am I trying to stir up a hornets nest or start any kind of rant. In many areas of the country hammock hanging has come under scrutiny. By the misinformed and unenlightened land use managers. Who have banned hanging in many public use areas. Due to the belief that hammock hanging damages trees. In response to this and as a means of showing all that hangers care about the environment. Many of us practice leave no trace camping methods. We choose to use tree straps to minimize the impact on trees. There are many opinions on whether or not this is effective. But In my mind if using a tree strap helps to promote hammock hanging in a positive light. Then I am all for it. Again I want to say that I am not condemning or looking down on your system. I'm just expressing an opinion.

Grand trunk was using a similar method when I bought a Skeeter Beeter a few years back. It was not to my liking because of the difficulties in fine tuning the hang. If it works for you... and I know some people like it.. then what ever hangs your hammock. I like the infinite adjustment potential of the ring buckles. I'm just too lazy to make the transition to the whoopie slings.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Using dutch clips with webbing attached to whoppies allows a simple wrap and clip system, the same applies for webbing only. Adjustments are made at the sling, the easiest and quite light(sling + webbing) IMO.

There is a pretty easy way to use rope AND avoid the appearance of tree damage: slip a couple small sticks or twigs between the rope and tree. That puts the stress on the twigs, not on the tree bark itself. This is illustrated in a few places in the archives here.

You can use rope and still demonstrate to anyone who questions you how well hammocks lend themselves to LNT principles. (Still even better than a tent, IMO!)
