    an introduction

    Hello!

    After a decade of hammock camping, I get bored, start surfing the web, and what do a find...a support group for my addiction!!!
    Who knew??? I need to get out more...or stay in more and surf...or....

    Anyway...I bought my Hennessy almost 10 years ago for two reasons;
    1. we were about to embark on a month long kayak trip up the east coast of Vancouver Island and needed something small and easy to set.
    2. hammocks appealed because everyone I knew thought they were a stupid idea. Yes, I am of that personality type.

    We ( my wife and I) set out with our hammocks, two Chinese Pugs and a Chihuahua and a big tandem ocean kayak stuffed literally to the gunnels with gear, paddled nearly 400 kms, slept in the hammocks for 27 nights consecutively, stayed dry (in the hammocks anyway), got laughed at a lot ( dropping a Pug out the bottom of the hammock so it can pee, then reeling it back inside by the harness is somehow humorous to some people), and generally had a fantastic trip.

    Since then, although my wife has lost her fascination with hammock camping, I have not. Most of mine is done on solo motorcycle trips these days; same hammock, better sleeping bag. We've done a lot of travelling in North America, central and South America, China and Australia, and I have hammocked in 17 different countries. Still love it, still get laughed at, though not because of the dogs anymore(they're too old now).

    My Hennessy has stood up amazingly well. I love the sleep, the convenience. We are about to embark on a new adventure which will challenge my hammocking; we're in the midst of moving to Regina, Saskatchewan. Every tree in the entire city is hand planted...it is BALD prairie. hammocking is going to get challenging, me thinks.

    In October I am travelling to Nicaragua on a medical aid trip and will be staying in small jungle villages for three weeks. the hammock is going instead of a tent, my fellow team members think I'm crazy, and will all come back still thinking that way, but really intrigued by the hammock.

    Thsi whole underquilt thing has me interested. I've always done the mylar blanket uderneath, but I LIKE the sound of down...

    Lookinf forward to stepping into this century and learning about all of the new gear and ideas!

    Wayne

    Welcome Wayne; I think you'll find plenty of nice lakes and trees in Sask. Sounds like you've already had some good fun in your HH. 2QZQ,(http://www.2qzqhammockhanger.com/id2.html ),
    has been supplying zipper mods for the HH hammocks to make things a bit more convenient and there are a number of great Under Quilt suppliers on the forum here. Your trip along V.I.'s east side perked my ears up as i'm a new kayaker and have been checking it out. Hope to see some pics of your stay in Nicaragua.
