    Smile maccat Standard or micro

i am not sure which to by a maccat Standard or a maccat micro.

i am going for a UL setup. i still want to be able to cook under it with my jet-boil. and have surfactant coverage for reasonably rainy nights.
price is also a lot to consider as the maccat micro is on 65$. i am hoping some off you that have bought a maccat micro could help me!!!!!!

If you really want to shave the weight, go with the Micro and do it in Spinn.

You can still cook under it, but it's easier if the hammock isn't in the way. The Micro will keep you dry, but you have to pay more attention and using the landscape to your advantage helps tremendously. A Micro in Spinn went on my Xmas list just last week.

I did not believe that a Micro was available in Spinn.

At least that is what the site said and I do believe was told by Brian...

I hadn't even looked yet to see if they were offered in Spinn, just assumed.
Wonder why that is? I bet Brian can be bribed. He is a starving grad student after all.

Edit: Maybe the width of the fabric bolt would result in a big waste pile after cutting a Micro.

I believe there was some reason on the deminsions of the tarp not allowing the use of spinn..

But i have been wrong in the past.

I am sure if you asked Brian really really nicely, he would build you one in Spinn.

Brian says he can make me a maccat micro in spin for 120$. he normally doesent because the roll does not come that with. but he will put a seam in it to make it 60inch wide.

Either one will work! Many have used the micro in very bad weather and been just fine, and as Cannibal mentioned get the Micro in Spinn for extra weight saving's! As Cannibal also say's pitching it right will play the largest role all the while utilizing the landscape to assist!

The micro would be great but I was advised by Brian to get the standard in spinnUL.

Now it's been used a few times it packs up into a 100mm diameter x150mm long stuff sack and with a whoopie.com single ridge line and 4 tarp tie outs attached it only weighs 283 gram's.

That's pretty compact and light for a bit more coverage in the rain over the micro.

It's still not a massive tarp though.

I'm right there with you, YH - building up my first hammock camping rig and I've got everything except the tarp. I'm torn between MacCat Micro vs. Standard too, trying to keep my pack weight down but still be comfortable in camp. Personally I'm leaning toward the standard but I'm still on the fence a bit
