Buying New Thread Injector, Need Advice

I know, I know...there is a thread on buying used. Trouble is there aren't a lot of used machines in my area and I'm not going to eBay. Too many what ifs.

I have three pairs of pants that I need to have hemmed. These are work pants, not dress pants. I'm going to be paying $15 each for the hem (I know it's steep but that's the rate 'round here). Got to thinking, might as well buy a machine. I did a bit of sewing when I was a kid.

So I'm looking at a couple lower end Singers. I don't need anything fancy. Right now I have no plans to DIY anything in particular but if I get the machine I will be itching to try my hand at a stuff sack or maybe a pack cover or whatever.

    Any thoughts? Thanks.

Have you checked with your local sewing machine repair shops? You can normally find good used machines that way. Trade ins.

I would do what pedro suggests. Although I get my wife's machine when she replaces it with something better.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Watch out with those low end Singers. Not the quality they once were. Talk with the guys that repair machines and see what's junk and what's not.

Am I looking for any particular features? I'm thinking I don't need 1001 patterns. Straight stitch and adjustable zig-zag is all I can think I would need.

The problem here in Miami is I don't speak Spanish. I'll try to find a repair shop that speaks English!!
