Neck Pains in the HH Exped.

I believe the height "limit" the company recommends is anyone under 6 feet. I am 5' 7in so I should be alright... should

Anyways, so mostly I get these neck pains when I sleep in the HH and I keep thinking "Gosh, am too tall for this thing?"

I try to keep my head and feet at about the same height so that's why I try to sleep in the back of the hammock. Maybe I need to slee more in the middle? Or would that not keep my feet and head at the same level?

I usually try to use my sweater as a neck roll. This works for me, but YMMV.

Do you not slide down to the foot end with both head and foot tied at the same level?

I agree with txulrich about something supporting the neck. If I can get my pack light enough, I'm thinking of bringing some sort of horseshoe shaped travel pillow just for comfort.

a compact fleece blanket rolls up as a neck pillow and serves as additional warmth if needed. i usually sleep so that my feet are higher in the hammock than my head if i stretch out. no neck pains for me and i have a long neck.

Do you put your compact fleece under you or over you for additional warmth. How does it work best?

depends on how much warmth i need. usually i wrap it around my torso or stuff it where ever a cold spot might be (sholder, knee, etc.). it rolls up to be about 8"x 2.5" if you roll it real tight, a lose roll for pillow use is about 16"x6"

I have a horseshoe blow up pillow with a soft cover that I got at target for $8 - packs small and light and the density can be adjusted for your particular comfort.

Is it coated with anything soft or is it just a plastic surface?

?? What do you mean in the back?

You are probably not lying asym enough. When you are on laying asym you really kind of naturally go to the same spot every time and there is not much moving backward or forward.

Yep - first question is what you're using as a pillow. I can't have anything under my head but I usually need something under my neck. The horseshoe-shaped travel pillows work best for me but I never take them camping. I have a stuffsack with fleece lining...I put extra clothing in it and use it as a neck pillow, and things work great for me.

If you don't use any pillow, your neck takes the stress between your shoulders and head, and that always causes me pain. If you use a normal pillow, your head may be up too high, stretching your neck. That's why something that gives only neck support works best for me.

Stuffing a jacket into its sleeve makes a decent pillow, too.
