    Hammock Sock Fabric

Ok, I am liking the hammock sock concept as a simple way to block wind and even add a little warmth. Looking at various threads, it seems folks have used DWR, Sil, IX lined fabric, presumably PE too, and Reflexcell. The latter four being essentially vapor barriers. (Not sure is DWR would be considered a VB.)

Anyway, I am wondering what you all would recommend for a light-weight, breathable, but wind-resistant fabric for general use.

I've read about Vapor Barriers being used as liners to prevent down and synthetics from losing loft. But placing a VB over a down bag would seem to be inviting condensation problems unless it is below a certain temp. 40 degrees? 30 degrees? lower?

I'm currently trying 40D 1.1 from Quest Outfitters, it seems to be a good choice for a breathable DWR fabric.

A vapor barrier goes inside the bag between you and the bag - that is how it protects the down from loosing loft from getting moist due to body moisture. The general wisdom is you should avoid using them at temps above freezing.

1.1 oz DWR is a good breathable material for the sock. If you want to spend some money, use Momentum...it's a little lighter and probably more water resistant.

Where is a good place to get Momentum? I don't recall seeing it anywhere.

Thanks for the responses! HF Rocks.

BTW, I contacted OWF to ask if the .9 rip had a DWR finish since it is not mentioned on the site - they kindly confirmed that it does.
