That is the same exact bag I have. Interesting, as I was considering something similar. I was more thinking about using it only as a UQ, unzipped and turned on it's side. Then I would only need something smaller on top.

The bag was originally rated for 25°. I wonder how that would translate to UQ/TQ/Pea Pod rating?

I used it a couple of days ago in 35 deg weather. I was comfy but a little on the cold side, I believe the issue is that even with the neck draw pulled there is still about 2-3" between bag and neck allowing cold air in and warm air out. I'm going to make a "Collar" for this area that will close the opening fully. I also have been using a reflective pad between the hammock and sleeping bag which seems to have increased warmth quite a bit...

Overall still very satisfied with the mod but still a work in progress...

    Will keep you posted....

sr1355, I found a 30 degree mummy bag 88" x 28" at Dicks sporting goods for $19 with the zipper in the foot box. I used your idea to weave the hammock through them middle and I plan on testing it tonight because it is supposed to be 35 deg tonight. This bag has a baffle that can be tightened above the shoulders so I hope I get a good seal. I will let you know how my test turns out.

Keep me posted Slackmacker, my kelty has a baffle at the neck too but with the hammock you just can't draw it tight enough.... I just finished a sock for the system, after testing in living room I can say it add quite a bit of warmth... I was sweating my butt off inside.... Hope to try out tonight as it's gonna get down to 35...

So I slept in the back yard last night, like you I had a tough time getting my hood to stay tight to the hammock and I don't have any shock cord so I used some Tarp clips on the hood and put a loop in my suspension to hold the hood up. I slept hot all night until about 5am when I realized that my shoulders were cold. It got down to around 35 with 25-30 mph winds so not biggie. I put a blanket under my shoulders and went back to sleep. I think you have something here, just need to figure out the hood thing. I couldn't snap any photos but it l looked just like yours. If you come up with a good way to keep my shoulders warm I am willing to try. With that mummy bag its a tight fit after I get all zipped in so I am not sure if I can put anything in the hammock like a pad but maybe under it.

What kind/brand name was the bag? Was thinking about doing the same, but not quite ready to cut my "good" bad.

Heading out to the WILD to try the sock for the night...Burrrrrr.... Bag and pad are about as good as they get, still might try the collar idea for next weekend if I get time between now and then to make one...

roadrunnr, sorry it is 88" x 29" called "Sleep Cell" made by "cellcorp" and its not the most quality thing I have slept in but what do you expect for $20. Now I need to get a source for some shock cord. I am with you, I didn't want to dig a hole in my good bag just in case I have to hit the ground.
