HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE?
I just returned from my first overnight in the Hoosier National Forest with my new HH Ultralite Backpacker and Super Shelter. The good news is that I returned a real beleiver. I had the best rest ever on the trail. I am glad I went alone though, because I surely would have gotten a laugh.
I had set up in the garage before I went but I had not practiced with a mat.
I set up and put my BA Pad and BA Lost Ranger in the hammock and got in through the bottom slot. I didn't feel like I was laying on my mat just right, so I would kind of hop up and jerk the pad and bag over to one side under me. To get the center of gravity right over the pad I kept doing this until I felt like I was finally laying right and felt like I would be comfortable for awhile. But when I looked out to see the camp, I noticed I could not see through the bug net. I felt the elastic tie downs up the side of the hommock instead of being to the sides as they should be, so I turned on my headlamp and @$%&*, the slit where I could get out of the hammock was on top! I had one hell of a time getting out of that thing.
Finally I got out half exhausted, and determined that maybe I had too much air in the Big Agnus pad. I took half of the air out and got back in and it was better, then I let half the air out again and found myself very comfortable for the rest of the night.
I was sure glad no one was there hearing me trying to get the hammock right side up so I could get out of it. Had I been in the middle of a bear attack I would have resembled a big taco to the bear, and easy lunch.
Well, If you repeat this story I will deny it!
I love my HH and can't wait to get out there again. Just thought I should elaborate on my first experience. Mule
