Oh-No gave me some of his mule tape. I've been hanging from it for a year know and really like it. I even made longer huggers out of it for the big pine trees at Dolly Sods. Good thing I did because I needed one of them. Both Mac and I thought the sap from the pine trees would make the huggers a mess but when I took them down, no sap stuck to huggers. I think I just got lucky though.
So count me in for a box! I'll make use of it.

This is great. Just yesterday I started looking seriously for Mule Tape.

I've been using Mule Tape (5/8ths size) ever since I started hanging for my tree straps. I usually carry 3 with me (2 short and 1 long one) and I've sewn a loop into each end. If I need a longer strap (big trees) I'll larkshead 2 together. I've had mine get really dirty, not noticed any pine sap sticking though. I just washed mine in the washer. Never noticed any streatch after I'd first sat into my hammock. No streatch during the night, even if it rained. It's also fairly easy for me to sew loops at the ends, on my regular sewing machine. I just make sure to sew back and forth and do a few "X" type looking stitches.

I have concerns about using 5/8" mule tape for tree huggers, when most folks are using wider, 1" strapping.
The whole purpose of a hugger is to avoid damaging the trees we hang from by distributing the load of the suspension. For lightweights, and kids I don't see a problem, but by reducing the strap size, we're again increasing the pressure on the tree, and possibly damaging the tree.
Has anybody looked into this?
