Help on a possible Mod to a WB Big mamajamba

I was thinking about adding pullouts to WB big mamajamba after i purchase it and maybe use it a couple of times, and after checking out Shug's thread on the subject (http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=4516) it got me wondering if it was possible to sew on the pullouts by hand since i don't own a sewing machine. Thanks in advance for all your input

Yes, you can do any of the diy projects by hand...if you have the time and the patience.

You probably already know this but just in case . . . Remember to seal them with seam sealer so they are waterproof.

There are two problems you will run into. If you can get past these two items you will be fine. 1) That's a heck of a lot of fabric to manage while hand sewing. No matter how you do it, it will be cumbersome. In fairness tho... the same is true if you had a machine. 2) Hand sewing is a learned art. There are many different kinds of stitches designed and used for many different purposes. There are many different kinds of hand sewing needles. Each offer their own pros and cons depending on the application. This is only to say, if you don't have experience hand sewing then do NOT jump right into your tarp as the project. Work on scraps and then work on scraps some more. Hand sewing is not "hard" but it is not a matter of just jabbing a needle through the fabric if you want a good end result.

My vote would be to get the grip clips and use them while you learn the art of hand stitching.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

"Bless you child, when you set out to thread a needle don't hold the thread still and fetch the needle up to it; hold the needle still and poke the thread at it; that's the way a woman most always does, but a man always does t'other way."

The Grip Clips would be a simple, no-sew way to do pull-outs.

Grip Clips work well .... I used them for getting my pull-outs where I wanted them.
But .... they are like taping a bumper sticker to your car!

Spend the extra $15 and get the Superfly. It already has the pull outs in place and it is a bit bigger than the mamajamba. From all reports, adding tie outs, while not difficult, has a certain aggravation factor involved.

Why not just laminate them? Dead simple, and seems to work well from the reports I've read. I'll see if I can find the thread.

Okay, didn't find an entire thread about it, but found some info on it.

    Seems pretty straightforward, eh?

Thanks everyone for the great input the grip clips look like something I may look into some more, but for now I may go with a superfly since I am new to all this then after I get some more confidence in my sewing abilities then do some DIY tarps with pullouts. Again thank you everyone for your input on the subject.
