I want to test out my underquilt this weekend to see how low I can go...temperature wise. What are folks using to measure temps?

you can use the stick on fishtank thermometers which are cheap and flexible, but have a limited range

I use a cheap digital. It has a corded sensor that I can run outside the hammock. That way I get a temp reading in the hammock and outside. Gives me a good excuse to stay in the hammock. Max/Min recorded temps is the main feature I look for. I think it cost about $9 at WallyWorld and weighs about 2 oz.

I have an old radio shack digital I use at home. on the trail I have a small whistle-mirror-magnifying glass-thermometer-McGiver-type survival tool.

With some gum and a paperclip you can take down a bear if you need to. Or remove blowdowns on the trail or take out a whole camp of the bad guys looking to take over the world.

I use the tried and true meathod, I toss my kids out back to play for 5 minutes then see how cold they are when they come back in...

I've met your kids...and, they don't get cold...tired, maybe...but, not cold. I saw the lights on their sneakers as they ran through the field Saturday night at MAHHA :^ )

i also have an infrared thermometer i bought for 25$ - but haven't used it for this. i use it to test the effectiveness of housing insulation, and heating/cooling systems

I've looked for a suitably light digital thermometer for a long time and not been happy with any I've found. I'm looking for an instant read (as opposed to the 'updates' given by the Coghlans thermometers), decent accuracy, a mini-max function that continuously adjusts (doesn't automatically 'turn off') and a realistic measuring range, e.g., -20F to +110F...

How does yours compare and where in WalMart did you find it?
