I'm not sure on the range, didn't even think to look. It is an instant read with REALLY BIG NUMBERS and a back light. I can actually read it in the middle of the night without straining to focus. As near as I can tell the accuracy is within a degree or two of true and the min/max temps don't turn off; at least not automatically. It has 3 buttons: min/max, clear (to reset the min/max), & light. A slider is used to switch between "in" or "out" temps.

I'll look when I get home to see if there is a namebrand on it. Where did I find it at Walmart; I have no idea. As luck would have it, the cats think they need food (yet again) so I'll be at Walmart tonight. I'll see if I can find it again.

Most likely in the hardware section near the mailboxes and such would be my guess. Most walmarts have things in the same places.

I use some pretty trick thermometers that I have because of work.

I have a slew of different IR, laser, and probe digital thermometers from

I also use a sling psychrometer to account for humidity levels and take
wet bulb readings to apply to a standard psych chart.

If you know anyone that works in heating or refrigeration, they will have
all similar gear. Its well worth borrowing for your DIY projects and testing
sleep systems

You can collect data on surface temps of your sleep system, between specific layers, and do several conversions that apply to ambient temps. pointing, shooting and recording is easy. My problem making sense of the data, understanding the readings, and applying some well reasoned change to my system.

Obviously not something for packing down the trail. But great for all those backyard tests beforehand.
I use this on the trail. Perhaps a bit heavy. But I am a huge nerd for collecting temp data on stuff.

maybe a thermometer is not a wise thing. knowing the temp might just make you feel colder.

I remember the birth of my first kid. they hooked my wife to a contraction sensing machine that showed a spike of the contraction about 2 seconds before my wife felt them. I was giving here a play-by-play - "her comes a big one honey!" and after about 5 rounds she said "stop warning me! it's worse knowing they are coming"...well..i cleaned up her language a bit, but you get the idea. I hate it when doctors say "this might hurt a bit...."
