    Newb here! Howdy from TN

    Just registered tonight!

I found my way here via Shug's Youtube videos. Thanks Shug for the entertainment and knowledge.

When I was a teenager I owned a 60's era .mil surplus jungle hammock. Only used it a couple times and always thought it was kewl, but definitely too heavy.

I have joined with the idea of doing my own DIY hammock to see if I am even compatible with a hammock. I am trying real hard to read and watch all I can before asking any questions. Shug has got me up to speed with all the important terms like under quilts, whoopie slings, ridgelines, snake-skins, etc.

I hope someday to come to a hang and meet some members!

Welcome from Oregon! Hope you find what you're looking for. Any hammock is far better than the ground any day!

Welcome to the forum and good luck on the DIY gear projects that you have in mind. If you would like to meet some of the members and see their gear, there is a hang scheduled for the end of next month at Meriwether Lewis Park located off the Natchez Trance in TN. Check out the thread in the Trips and Hangout sub-forum or just search Meriwether Lewis.

Welcome! I once had the old GI hammock as well. It wasn't until I started waking up with sore hips while tent camping that I remembered that I didn't have to sleep on the ground if I could find a suitable more modern hammock with a tarp.

I Found Hennessy Hammocks about 6 years ago. Ther rest is history. I'm still using the same Hennessy 6 years later with a few upgrades.

Welcome. My first hammock was also an army surplus model. Used it car camping with my family in the 50s. Years later I decided to make a lighter one. The rest is history....
