Wow... warms my heart that you saved one of these amazing dogs, my dog is satisfied with a pad and a fleeceblanket(she dont like hanging, i´ve tried ), when she tags along(she´s also very short haired being 50/50 amstaff/rednose mix).
If it gets even colder you might wanna consider one of these:

Sorry i couldnt find the english version, but its basicly a insulated bag(made with aluminized waterproof fabric) with a pad in the bottom.
Its not the lightest, but its made pretty bombproof.

To much time on your hands? Waste some time here
OK, a little Google image searching, and this is along the lines of what I'm going to make (if I don't find something off the shelf that meets my standards/needs)
Lots of good solutions here. Dogs are individuals, so you'll be looking for the best one for yours. There's nothing sacrosanct about using a hammock, as opposed to a pad, a tent, an igloo, Fjellduken for hunden din, or anything else. (We couldn't say that about human accomodations, could we? ) I think all dogs want to have a place that is theirs, and they want it near their human. That's why the best way to find a lost dog is to leave your shirt next to the trail and come back the next day; the dog will be sleeping on it.
How's this for "hanging with the dog"
It's a ferret hanger, but I could scale it up for the puppy. PVC frame the lower with stretched material like a cot.
So many ideas, so little time.
Ive havent camped in below 50 with my doggie (I have a Australian Cattle short haired) and have used a 1/4 CCF pad and a fleece blanket big enough to double over once. I pitch my BWWD low enough that the wall edges touch the ground and close up the doors to protect her from the wind. Another Idea that just poped in my head would be to pour warm watter into camel blatters (not hot you dont want to melt them. PUt them inside her back pack (I have the ruff wear ones where they are built in) and have her sleep with warm water bottles in her pack to stay warm. Again havent tried this but would be curious on its effectiveness. And way too go on rescueing a dog, I also rescued mine and couldent imagine life with out her. Is she going to be in your wedding, I got vetoed on the ideah.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.
Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
I made a ripstop covered double layer IX TQ. The curr of my avatar has claimed it as her own . 50lbs. Short Dobie hair. Thinks she's cold at 60*. Stuff a pillow in the foot box and she goes nowhere until she has too. Cheap, portable, warm and comfy. I need to make another for me .
The gene pool needs a life guard.
Wow, these are all great ideas. I've been sleeping with my border collie in my hammock, which is extra long to accommodate, but my poor pit-bull/chesapeake bay mix has to stay home, because he get's too cold. Maybe I can come up with something from these great ideas so he can come along, too. I feel SO bad leaving him home for longer trips. Not too bad, though... he get's to play and romp with my neighbor's kids, which he loves.
