45 miles north west of phila.,pa. 2.5 hrs. from pine creek state park where the pa.ruck is end of jan. i'm going to make that trip so if i can't catch this outing i'll still get out there. and it will be cold for sure there in jan. hope some others from this site will be there as well. there is a link to info on it on the front right side of the white blaze page for anyone interested.
Easy hike into the Wise Shelter from Grayson Highlands SP. Coupla miles max, great scenery. Plenty of campsites, trees, and water at the shelter too.

A shelter close by would be a good alternative to carrying in a backup shelter. If it gets to cold you could sleep in the shelter.
Just an FYI for those that have never been to Mt Rogers. It can be 60° with blue skies in the afternoon and that night it can be in the 20's with 30-40 mph winds and blowing snow.
I'm with you on that one. I want to do some backyard testing at around 0 degrees before I go. Hopefully the Cincinnati winter will accomadate me before then.

Yep - if we can hit 0 or better I'll consider it a raging success. Teens, just a success. 20s, well, at least the company was great.
