    Where To Stow Tarp

Finally got the snakeskins on the tarp. I'm happy with my setup. Just need to run through it a few times here at home prior to hitting the trail. It is raining today so it might be a good rehearsal. Ugh!

The HH stuffsack will accommodate both the hammock and tarp. But it is a tight squeeze. I'm wondering if I should just stuff the tarp in an outer compartment and leave the hammock in the stuff sack by itself.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

I keep my tarp seperate in an inside pocket. Hammock stays dry and if it is raining I want access to the tarp first. Hammock is way at the bottom of my pack.

Same here, keep it separate. Goes in an outside pocket or on the very top so that it can be put up quick should the need arise. Hammock is towards the bottom with the quilts.

I keep my tarp strapped to the outside of my pack, it's kept rolled up in snakeskins! I do this as it's much easier to get at and I don't have to open my pack up to get it out, this helps me "A LOT" when it's raining!!

Sounds good. Thx for the replies. Just wrap the ridgeline around the 'skins or is there a better way of doing it?

Separate in an outside pocket (the left one) on my OHM. Next to it in same pocket, are my tent stakes in a heavy duty net bag.

Hammock, WhoOpies, BBO, Molly Mac Gear IX Hammock Sock & underquilt in a BBB in the bottom of my pack. No Sniv TQ on top of that in JRB stuff sack. I would PREFER to have the UQ in first so I could get it out last, & put it away first, but the hammock fits fully in the bottom of my pack & if I put the UQ in first there is a (Huge?) gap left, & I don't have the spare room, so,,,,,,,

Next to the TQ is my clothing bag, on top of it all is my food bag & "Possibles bag" (tools, first aid, TP, etc.) Straps & Dutch clips in the front net pocket. Cookset in Right pocket.

Definitly keep tarp separate on outside of pack, just dew is enough to dampen not only your hammock but the rest of the contents of your pack. No matter how muck I shake my tarp it is still wet/damp. This may not be right but works well for me. I load my pack in the order in which I need them when I finally reach my campsite typically at dark at the end of a long day hiking. First the tarp goes up and gets a couple of good shakes if it is wet from packing up or rainy day hiking. Then when I have a dry(er) spot, only then do I open my pack. On the top inside a Event bag is my hammock - because I like (need) a place to sit down as I unpack the rest of my gear. Next to my hammock is my TQ & UQ in their own Event bag (at the top of my pack because they and hammock are light) are un-packed and put in the hammock. Stove & cookset is next and gets set up. Then I light my stove to heat up some water for tea or whatever. Then my food bag and clothes bag come out - these are on the bottom of my pack. I do a quick personal clean up and put on my clean camp/night clothes. Now nice, warm and dry, put the uq on and I open my food bag have tea and cook dinner as now the water is hot. In the morning I just reverse the process but light my stove first. Lastly the tarp comes down and stows in the outside pocket of my pack in its own stuff sack. In the outside of my pack is my Event ditty bag, with note pad, IPod etc. This works well for me. Disadvantage is if I cook in the middle of the day I have to remove my hammock and bedding but as they are in their own stuff sacks but they protected from the elements. All snacks and food for day are outside my pack.
