    new hammock help

Just got my first hammock today. Anyone have any suggestions on changing the rig on the end to something easier/better or is this ok to start off with. Thanks to those who have helped me thus far

I've heard stories of that hook failing with folks near the weight limit, plus who want's a STEEL hook on a backpacking hammock?

Talk to Paul at http://arrowheadequipment.webs.com He can set you up with everything you need at a decent price.

For tree-hanging, ropes can damage a tree, so he has tree-huggers (1" wide strap that spreads the load out)

There are several suspension options: All strap, strap w/ toggles -> whoopie slings, straps with cinch buckles, etc. Each camp has it's proponents. Since I don't hike too much, I stuck with the strap and cinch buckle setup (cheap) but tree huggers and whoopies are the latest rage and not that much money either way.

    Take a look at Shug's Videos: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=15516

He talks about some of the options.

    Best of luck!
