    First Hang last weekend

OK, here is my first attempt to hang the hammock (acutally my second). Pardon the fuzzy pictures, I also have a new camera I am trying to figure out the bugs on.

For my (real) first hang, I had some climbing rope, sailing ropes, and a dingy double block and tackle. For the sake of pride, I did not take any pictures. By the next day, I had finished my SLR and whoopies. I only had one loop sewn in to my straps, but I wanted to try it out before sundown.

The biners in the pictures are the stock ones which came with the Skeeter Beeter. Two of them weigh almost as much as the hammock. A couple of days later, I turned some toggles (one from paduak, the other from purpleheart), and last night I hung it all again with the toggles. Wow! it went up quick and easy, especially compared to the first time.

The last pic is the view from the hammock. Life is good!

It's wonderful when it comes together.

I've been following your flurry of posts lately, as I'm new to this myself.

I could help with camera questions if you have any.

Thanks for the welcome, Opie984. That pic is taken up Bayou Texar where I grew up.

So where do you hang in the area?

OK. It appears I misled you last week with this post. Allow me to correct myself.

Last weekend I hung my hammock for the first time, but I did not have the chance to sleep in it. It did work out many of the suspension details, and as posted, upgraded to diy whoopies and straps. By the end of the weekend, I had turned some toggles. I also had a borrowed Noah 12, which I hung in different configuations. It went well.

Yesterday, following a week of prep, I hung the hammock again, and with an old cheap second hand sleeping bag and some gorilla tape, rigged a crude underquilt. My intention was to use the opportunity to pin the bag so I could convert it to a warm weather UQ.

I just couldn't put it off, and I decided to overnight in the hammock. Temps were suposed to be around 59º, so I figured it would give the primitive UQ a try. I used my REI flannel mummy liner as a TQ. Overall it went well, but it did get breezy around 4am and the UQ and tape got very loose, so I was cool. As I had a tarp up so I got up and easily re-rigged it with a storm block from the north, and handily slept another 2.5 hours. Good thing I had the tarp up as at 5am the sprinkler wend off.

Fun night, not without its problems, but I will ask about those if I have some more time later.
