definitely get a hammock! more independence for all the campers. I am going to take my nephew for his first hammock camping trip. I am excited and he is ecstatic. Will let HF know how it goes.

When they were young like yours, I'd hang them together under the same tarp and I was nearby. They keep each other company and I was ready if anything happened. with the bigger tarps, you might be able to hang three under the same tarp, which would be convenient when you can find a suitable site. That would limit your site selection a bit.
Now, I normally go with my wife and younger son. We hang two hammocks under one tarp and one by itself. Even when there are only two of us, I always take two tarps in case the sites don't work out...I think each hammock should at least have a minimal tarp just for safety. I've hung two taps overlapping so we could have one big space, though. That's what I'd recommend if you'll be farther than a mad dash from the car.
If you're car camping, just bring a ginormous tarp.
