Thanks to the Hammock Forum . . .

    Greetings,

As I packed up my hammocks today during our trip to the Wild and Scenic section of the Rogue River (http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=22954), I had an epiphany: most of how I spend my time in the outdoors is directly influenced by you fine folk.

Let's have a look, shall we?

That's a pretty standard Hennesy setup, but look closely and you'll see your handiwork.

Bungee cords on the tarp tie outs to suck the tarp back in when it stretches during rain. I learned that here.

Here are a number of good things I learned by reading these pages. The tarp is hung lower than the hammock so that when you get in, the tarp still covers your butt. I now use whoopie slings so that I don't have to perform the Hennessy lash dance while adjusting the centering and hight. I see long tree huggers with Marlin spike toggles. Oh, yea, you can't see it, but the foot of my hammock is higher than my head.

What have we here? A blackbishop sack and if you look back at the first photo, you might spot some homemade Red River Gorge quilts. I'm not smart enough to come up with that stuff on my own.

So, I want to thank all of you who have been so gracious with your experience and your knowledge. My daughter and I truly appreciate all you have given us.

I like your reflection on the enjoyment you have on your set up and enjoyment of camping.
Like me I look forward to getting out and spending at least one night outside between two trees and not on the ground.
I am still working up to the making or buying the equipment that you have but there is no where to go but up, so to speak.
I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority. - E. B. White (1899 - 1985)

Thanks for that thought, FreeTheWeasel--I'd have to concur as I think about my own gear and fixin's. Over the years (!) I've been hanging out here I've picked up so many useful tips and tricks.

There are many other "camping" sites on the web, but HF is my #1 goto site.

As we packed up this weekend from an overnighter, my signifigant other looked at me and said: "Thank You for showing me how much fun and comfortable the woods can be". All I could say was: "keep reading HF and you will know what I know!" Thank you FTW for bringing this realization to me this morning and expressing it first..........

Not only do I constantly think about all I've learned from this site when I'm out camping/hiking, but I'm always amazed that even after all this time, I still learn something new on a regular basis.
There are some amazingly innovative folks hangin around here!
    Trust nobody!
