That's correct. I posted this above:

However, this works great for a tarp setup where you are using independent lines for each side, not a single line setup, since one side of the line you attach to is slack. Also for tent guylines like the ones Opie sells.
A kite's bridle has enough slack that this works extremely well. It would not work on a completely taut line.

There is some great, solid info on knots in Mountaineering, Freedom of the Hills by The Mountaineers. That's where I got my information on Prusiks, Klemheists, and lots of others. Since these are climbing knots, the information assumes they will be used in large line and cord for climbing. I guess knot performance can differ on differing size line....

If you talk to an avid mountain climber they will tell you that you always tie a prusik with line thinner than what you're tying to. Using equal sized rope reduces the gripping power of the knot by quite a lot. But, we're just hanging hammocks and tarps here...

Someone else referenced the Blake's Hitch in another thread. Just gave it a shot and it holds fantastic in my paracord experiments. Even simpler than the Prusik since you don't need a loop.

I've still had no luck with the Klemheist except when the tied with smaller utility line to the paracord.

Try putting another wrap or two on the Klemheist. Another reason I like this knot over the Prussic is that adding additional wraps doesn't complicate dressing it. But I think I've said that before.

Any sliding/gripping knots I've used so far on my Amsteel whoopie and on my Kelty Trip-tease guy line have been tied with loops of 2mm utility cord. They are very light and grip well as Prusiks or Klemheists. I haven't tried them on my Dynaglide ridgeline yet, but will soon.

I used to like 550 cord (parachute cord), but the more I use it, the less I like it. It's heavy, stretchy, and acts weird with some knots. Any cord I buy now is the "Power Rope" sold by Campmor in the climbing section. The 2mm and 3mm (paracord size) is .15/ft. They offer it from 2mm up to 9mm and I use almost all the sizes for various camping, hiking, kayaking, hunting and canoeing needs. It's a great product.

You wqnt the ability to slide under high winds for your tarp. Better to retighten a prussic than rip a tarp
