Another hammock newbie with much Shug-love!!

Been backpacking all of my life, but finally gave hammocking a try. Got to say that being able to set the hammock up in about 5 minutes for a quick trail-side nap sure does make life pleasant. . .

Finding material to make a hammock is NUTS! My wife has looked Twice at two different walmarts just to make sure they didn't carry ripstop, we hit another tonight together with nothing to show. The material shops that do have it in town want 5 to 6 bucks a yard. I want to sew! Driving me nuts ordering over the web if I don't find it tomorrow cheaper.

I have however purchased a couple more ferro rods and 4 new water bottles, 2 stainless steel and 2 aluminum, I dug out all my packs, sleeping bags, blue pads, cooking kits, candles, vaseline and cotton balls in film canisters. I'm ready I just need the hammock, God help me I'll hang up another sheet this weekend if I have to. I've had all I can take and can't take no more I'm popeye the hammock man.

Tiger, I finally got fed up, and ordered some stuff to make me a hammock man. toot toot.. 8 yards of black 1.9 on the way to my house and I can't wait to start sewing, the plan is to make a shelf on the side like someone I know. Would you guys double the hammock or just use a 10 to 11 ft section for the body and use the rest for a tarp? Thanks!

This is a great thread. Please allow yet another thank you to our much loved "Shugity Shugity Hang Hang" who is actually the Pied Piper of Hammock Forums. It would be interesting to know just how many souls (now LOST souls) who have entered the wonderful world of hanging and found their way here to Hammock Forums because they happened to watch at least one of the fantastic videos produced by Shug. Thanks again to Shug and to all who take the time and effort to put out the videos which make learning SO much easier and clearer.
