    Hello from Alabama

I am new here, and hoping to gain lots of great knowledge. I love the outdoors and try to camp as much as possible. I have had to back surgeries and don't sleep that great in the ground, but I have just dealt with it the best I could.....however I want more comfort in the woods when I camp, so I am trying a hammock. Ordered a Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Pro this week and hope to try it out this weekend maybe. Hoping to learn a lot here on how to enjoy sleeping off the ground.

Welcome to HF. Hammock hanging should be just the ticket to ease the strain and pain on your back.

Hello from North Alabama. I too have real back issues, and hammock camping is certainly the way to make hiking, camping and such much more tolerable. I don't know how cool it is in Central Alabama, but it's a little too cool right now to camp in a hammock with out some form of under insulation.

A CCF pad will work for now, if you just use your typical pad under you in the hammock it will likely get you through the cooler nights. But I would certainly consider looking into Underquilts soon if you plan to camp through the colder season. Anything below 55 without an UQ or pad can be quite uncomfortable. I find it still much better than the ground!

Greetings and welcome. I am from extreme NW FL, and you may or may not know that many of us around here simply refer to the western panhandle as "L.A." That's Lower Alabama.

I to am new to this hammocking thing, and I also have a SkeeterBeeter Pro. I slept in it Saturday night for the first time, and will be back in it this weekend as well.

I have noticed a good number of hangers from the central Alabama south to the Gulf Coast, and a few in south Mississippi as well. Maybe we should try to plan a hang sometime in our neck of the woods. The Florida gang is planning something around Ocala, but Huntsville is 15 miles closer to me than Ocala. Probably more fun to hang with the Alabama gang anyway.

I recomend upgrading your suspension right away. The SB Pro comes with a heavy, basic suspension at best. Better to do it right. Holler if you have any questions. 10 people around here will answer you. Best group of folks on the web, here.

Thanks guys, I would love to get together sometime and camp. I plan to update the suspension soon, just spent quite a while reading about webbing last night. I have and old sleeping bag I am considering making an UG from also. So many ideas, so little time......or money!

    Another Central Alabama Hanger!

Welcome Aboyd! Just reading posts can take some time and fill some brain void. There is a wealth of info here. I also like Buffalo Skipper's idea about a hang. Maybe someone will put one together on the proper forum. It would be good to see how everyone is hangin'.

Welcome from a former back injured person (two herniated disks). Couldn't sleep in a tent any more. Now every chance I get I'm in the woods with a hammock.
