Phoenix Area Hang - Need Suggestions

    Hey guys,

I wanted to pick the brains of our Phoenix area hangers.

I will be flying out to Phoenix soon and may have a weekend or 2 to kill.

Any cool places to hang that you would recommend?

I probably won't have a car, so that probably limits me alot, but are there places I could maybe take a bus to that would be close by?

Any other sights you recommend I visit that aren't necessarily hammock related? Maybe some good hikes?

    Thanks!

no places to hang in phx city limits. closest you can get to anything by bus are South Mountain, and some local parks that may not be the best place for any overnighters.

City parks are perfect for over nighters... so long as you don't like your wallet and bullet hole free body. Eh no car means no hanging outside of setting up inside your hotel room. Management hates when you put holes in the walls to hang hammocks. Uh Phoenix has... uh well... hmmm... Unless your a criminal there's not much to do except swim in pool. We have casinos that will pick you up almost anywhere you live. I would rent a car for a couple days and go up north to the rim area and play. There are lots of fun places to hang hand hike an hour and a half - two hours up the 87 depending on where you are in phoenix. Or up the I-17 but I don't realy know what's that way to much. But phoenix its self has some things to do as long as you have cash to burn. There are rock climbing gyms, go cart track ( hey there fun), before mentioned casinos( I avoid them I never win but others do), paintball arenas both indoor and out, uh... water parks with huge slides and yada yada, um... jeep tours... the list goes on and on but for the price of a few days of that you can hang in the tall pines with a cheap little rentail car.
I LIVE FOR THE DAY AFTER TWO DAYS BEFORE TOMORROW.

    Hello jhunt87:

I agree with the others that without a car in Phoenix, it is going to be very difficult for you to get to a decent camping place where you can use your hammock. Although, if you could possibly get a vehicle, the October/November time frame is a great time to use your hammock in Arizona. The website posted by tewa is a very authoritative source of information for Arizona hiking and camping trails.

If you are on foot in Phoenix, all is not lost. There are some very good day hikes within the Phoenix metro area that you might enjoy. One that I would highly recommend is to hike to the peak of Camelback Mountain.

Try this link http://phoenix.gov/PARKS/hikemain.html for more information about Phoenix area Mountain Parks and Trails.

    First, Where is Runnemede?

Next, The Phoenix Metro area (Phoenix, Glendale, Mesa etc.) is just a place where people live, work and go shoping. Everything there as far as recreation and relaxation costs money and lots of it. The real Arizona is outside of Phx Metro.

If you find yourself in Phx. with a weekend free, rent the cheapest vehicle you can and get out. Head for the Rim. Temps are cooling down right now. Lots of places to hang.

When are you planning on being in AZ?

Thanks for the info guys. Unfortunately my trip to Arizona has fallen through.

I have a friend who has been working for the fire fighting service who is going to be laid off for the season on the 9th. As of 2 months ago, my original plan was to fly out on the 8th and stay until the 18th, we were going to drive around Arizona and do some hiking and camping.

Then, about a week ago... his plans changed and I was going to have to entertain myself the 8th - 10th and the 16th through the 18th...

Now... he has changed his plans again and will be leaving Arizona as soon as he gets laid off..

    Runnemede is in New Jersey.

Sorry to hear that things have changed. If you ever do get out this way, please check-in again. I am sure that most of us would be glad to share our thoughts with you, so that you can get all that Arizona has to offer.
